Obviously my problem wasn’t that I needed Zach to be off from work so Violet could scream her nights away, demanding. “MORE WATER PLEASE!”. Nope, he’s been off from work more than a couple of time since I finally admitted that I wasn’t strong enough to take her bottle away; I still haven’t taken it away. It would seem that I’m still not strong enough.
But I am just a little bit smarter than my strong willed, bottle addicted, not quite 2 year old daughter.
You see, the Bottle Fairy came to visit her. Or more correctly, the Bottle Fairy came to visit us. She delivered new “bottles” to Violet. She instructed (me) that Violet could only use these special bottles; and, the bottles had to remain in her bed at all times. These new bottles were just colored Avent bottles (pink/purple to differentiate from Ben’s). It worked! I’ve only had 2 requests for a bottle outside of the bed, and I was strong enough to deny her bottles until bed… YES! I am strong.
A short time later, the Bottle Fairy came to visit us again. She changed the bottles to be more of a sippy cup with a bottle material mouth piece rather than a nipple. It worked again! I am smarter than my daughter!!!! We’re finally moving away from the bottle….
And then I learned a lesson. Don’t ever think you’re smarter or stronger willed than your child when it comes to an addiction. Sign.
One fine day, she refused the new bottles/sippy cups. The fit was so high and I must have just been too tired or too distracted…she got the 1st Bottle Fairy Bottles. Not to give up my fight, today at nap time, I again was strong in my conviction that the Bottle Fairy scolded me for giving her these bottles and she had to return to the 2nd Water Delivering Device instead. She said no - refused to take it. It was brought to her bed with her and I haven’t heard her since.
Zach is off tonight. The plan is for me to stick to my guns and not cave in to the fancy bottles anymore. I will do what the Bottle Fairy has outlined. I will be strong…
I think.
